description
Created in 1983 by master perfumer Serge Kalouguine, L'Ombre dans l'Eau is an avant-garde fragrance: it was one of the very first fruity-floral fragrances in perfumery. Its story begins with Dido Merwin, a close friend of the founding trio of Diptyque, who, after picking roses and blackcurrants, was delighted by this blend of scents. She confided this revelation to her friend Desmond Knox-Leet, who then imagined a fragrance that would exalt the union of blackcurrant and rose. Evoking "the scent of a green garden by the water", this perfume is like a pause by a quiet river where you fall asleep under a weeping willow. Roses and blackcurrant berries come together in one scent: the herbaceousness of blackcurrant leaves on one side, the fruity, tart accents and floral intensity of rose on the other. These same notes melt with the background of ambergris and musk that make the plant world addictive.

nose reviews

An iconic fragrance from Diptyque, l'Ombre dans l'Eau is available as an eau de toilette and an eau de parfum and is based on a very strong fruity note, particularly blackcurrant. Rose petals and the freshness of blackcurrant berries combine in a fragrance that intoxicates us: the grassiness of the blackcurrant leaves, the fruity acidic accents and the floral intensity of the rose offer a break in nature that we savor without moderation.

An eau de toilette strongly composed around the blackcurrant bud, with a gaiac wood and musky effect, while the eau de parfum is sweeter with powerful notes of raspberry.

journalist opinion

The pitch is very similar to an impressionist painting by Gustave Courbet: "the scent of a green garden by the water". The first impression is very green (tomato leaves, blackcurrant buds, galbanum - an herb from Iran). It announces the arrival of a fresh, petal-like rose, growing on a woody-chypre background that is reminiscent of reminiscent of the smell of undergrowth in the summer sun. There is no melancholy in this harmonious composition bathed in a halo of gaiety and joie de vivre. At a time when people are talking about naturalness without really knowing what it means, here is a concentrate of naturalness and vegetal humidity that gives the impression of opening the windows wide. This great classic from Diptyque is a snapshot of "real" nature to be worn on the skin to feel even more alive.

Diptyque

The brand was founded in 1961 by three singular personalities united by a strong aesthetic alchemy: Christiane Montadre-Gautrot, Yves Coueslant and Desmond Knox-Leet. Fed with a common passion for drawing, they start creating motifs for fabrics and wallpapers, and decide to open their first shop with two entrances (like a diptych) in Paris, Boulevard Saint Germain.
