Edouard Foxhall of the Camden discovered sandalwood on the Island of Pines, New Caledonia, in 1840. Unknown in Europe before the end of the 19th century, the noble spicy wood had a proud pedigree: 'candana' in Sanskrit or 'sandal' in Arab. A sophisticated ointment for the body and the hair, it conjured up anguish and, inexpressibly, mixed all the Asiatic incenses.

Head notes : cardamom
