Every season, Nose gives you the key to unlock a new entrance to our selection of scents, and the inspirations behind. This autumn, we propose four inspirations: #spume, #eaudevie, #autumnrose, #smokedleather.

What inspires us : #spume

The ocean is associated with travels and navigation (Magellan), mythical explorations (Cousteau in the Antarctic), seaside landscapes (Cap Code and John Derian), tales of the Vikings (Ibn Fadlan), adventure novels (Jules Verne). The ocean is synonymous with nature and misfortune, cult films to watch on cosy autumn nights (The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou), seafood and tasting platters (enjoying a plate of razor shells on the Normandy coast).

…also in the poetic dimension

Often, to amuse themselves the men of the crew
Lay hold of the albatross, vast birds of the seas-
Who follow, sluggish companions of the voyage,
The ship gliding on the bitter gulfs.

The Albatross by Baudelaire (1861)

A weariness, outworn by cruel hopes, still clings
To the last farewell handkerchief’s last beckonings!
And are not these, the masts inviting storms, not these
That an awakening wind bends over wrecking seas,
Lost, not a sail, a sail, a flowering isle, ere long?
But, O my heart, hear thou, hear thou, the sailors’ song!

Brise Marine by Mallarmé (1914)
